Climbing in Gestalgar

Gestalgar is a village in the region of Los Serranos, where the Turia river flows towards Valencia after crossing the impressive canyon of Chulilla. About 4Km from the village is the Peña María de Gestalgar, a small mountain that has much to offer to climbers. It is located about 50km from the city of Valencia and it takes about an hour to get there by car. It has a recreational area next to the Turia river where there is a fountain, picnic tables, a large parking lot and the most important for climbers: lots of rock!

La Peña María has some multi-pitch routes between 150m and 200m and with several sports routes at the base of the mountain. There are two well-differentiated sectors: the Picnic area, with short bouldery routes of V and 6th grade and the Cave, a small overhang with 7th and 8th grade routes. The area is very popular during spring and summer months since it has shade all afternoon (from 11am or 12am) and the approach to the walls is very short and comfortable.
